Audi TT FT565 Twin Turbo

Posted by AudiMobiles.com
A custom car like this one is truly a labor of love which showcases superb dedication, teamwork and craftsmanship, the marrying of ideas and dreams of both the owner and the builder, and an amazing attention to the details of what you see, and especially, of what you don’t see. Also, a show car at this high level of caliber exhibits a series of industry “firsts” which go by virtually unnoticed to the casual observer:

  • The first new Mk 2 TT in North America - one of the first production Euro-spec TT’s, it was purchased in Germany and shipped directly to the HPA Motorsports headquarter facility in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada
  • The first of 10 limited edition HPA FT565 Twin Turbo conversions
  • The first production KW Suspension V3 coil-over kit for the Mk 2 TT
  • The first production LSD slant door kit for the Mk 2 TT
  • The first production Brake Upgrade Kit for the Mk 2 TT
  • The first production Oettinger body kit for the Mk 2 TT
  • The first production Moda new model “MD3″ wheel set
  • The first production Dunlop Sport Maxx “GT” tires, not yet officially released
  • Last but not least, was a wheel and tire upgrade designed to improve adhesion, increase the contact patch by widening the rubber, and provide a striking custom appearance. The wheel selected was the new 19×8.5 inch Moda MD3 for its classic five spoke design and interesting paintable surfaces, which are of course done to match the wild exterior. In the rubber department, the TT was blessed with new, not yet released (at the time), Dunlop Sport Maxx “GT” tires in 255/35ZR19 for all four corners.

The new TT tips the scales in at a stellar lightweight 3262 lbs. because of Audi’s hi-tech space-frame chassis construction which is about 70% aluminum. This gives it a refined, light and lively feel, and offers a huge handling advantage when things get twisty. The KW V3 coil-overs in combination with the OE sway bars result in a slighter firmer ride, but keep the vehicle extremely flat under hard cornering. At any speed the chassis felt well planted and neutral, and provided excellent feedback through Audi’s new electro mechanical speed sensitive steering. The new Haldex controller worked seamlessly to distribute power more effectively to all four wheels making this car particularly fun to drive. Also, the upgraded brakes were outstanding with a firm linear feel, and the new Dunlop Sport Maxx “GT” tires provide a very high level of grip for a street tire. This HPA TT is truly approaching handling nirvana.

One of the most important worldwide premieres that took place at this weekend’s Beijing Auto Show is without doubt, the 2009 Audi Q5 (details and high-res images here). As it would do at any other major car show around the globe, Audi staged a “theatrical” debut for its compact-sized SUV in China. The German carmaker’s presentation included female and male models, dancers, bikers and a bit of sweet-talk from one of its execs.

    Audi Q5 new Official pictures

    Posted by AudiMobiles.com
This is what happens when you put an Audi Q7 on a hot wash! The German brand is upping the ante in the compact SUV sector with its all-new Q5. And these first official pictures will have Land Rover and BMW executives in a sweat.

The newcomer is aimed squarely at the Freelander 2 and X3, combining smart styling with Audi’s famous quattro four-wheel-drive system.

Measuring 4.63 metres, the Q5 is longer than its closest rivals, but bosses claim it will be the sportiest compact SUV around when it hits UK showrooms in September. From the outside there’s no mistaking its distinctive Audi grille, while its optional LED daytime running lights borrow heavily from the new A4.

The rear tailgate is aluminium to reduce weight – just like the bon-
net. LED light clusters provide a striking look at the back. A pair of alloy roof rails boosts practicality, while an extra-large panoramic sunroof features on the options list.

Buyers will get the choice of three exterior packages. Standard Q5s feature black body trim, but customers will also be able to select a full body-colour option or even pick a contrasting shade. Alternatively, sporty S Line versions provide a more aggressive look, and an optional off-road package includes beefy underbody protection and bigger alloy wheels.

Audi is famed for its quality interiors and the Q5 won’t disappoint, with wood, aluminium, chrome, leather and Alcantara all featuring inside.

A gearshift indicator in the instrument panel helps you select the most economical ratio, and the brand’s clever MMI interface controls major functions via an integrated screen on the centre console. There’s also a space-saving electronic parking brake.

The Q5 scores for practicality, too, as the rear seat backs tilt, and an optional sliding bench is available to boost loadspace or rear legroom. The 540-litre boot can’t match the Freelander 2 (755 litres), but it trumps the 480 litres available in the BMW X3 and extends to 1,560 litres if you fold the rear seats.

Extras include an A6 Avant-style load-securing system, which uses floor-mounted rails to stop small items from sliding around. The extensive options list includes everything from a folding front passenger seat to a climate-controlled cup-holder and powered tailgate.

To ensure that the Q5 is better to drive than its rivals, Audi Drive Select allows owners to tune the suspension settings. Meanwhile, the firm’s Dynamic Steering system varies the gearing of the rack, depending on road speed, and can even apply corrective inputs to improve on-the-limit safety.

A trio of engines is available, comprising one petrol and a pair of oil-burners. The revamped 2.0-litre T FSI unit delivers 208bhp and 350Nm of torque, taking the Q5 from 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds and giving 27.6mpg. The 168bhp 2.0 TDI returns 35.1mpg, while the flagship 236bhp 3.0 TDI does 30.5mpg – and can race from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds.

Gearbox options include a conventional six-speed manual, although a seven-speed twin-clutch S tronic will be available on the 2.0T FSI and 3.0 TDI models.

Quattro all-wheel drive ensures excellent traction on and off-road, and hill descent control is fitted as standard. Prices are yet to be con-firmed, but entry-level models will start from less than £30,000

Audi S8 5.2-liter V10 nominated as Engine of the Year

    Posted by AudiMobiles.com
The 5.2 V10 engine from the Audi S8 has been nominated as International Engine of the Year. Go for it!

The “International Engine of the Year Award” is a big deal as far as bragging rights go in this industry. Think of it like the Academy Awards for engines. However, instead of members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voting, you have 62 renowned motoring journalists, from 30 countries, casting ballots for their favorite fossil fuel burner.

Let’s sit back and listen to the orchestra for a bit… the winners don’t get announced until May 7, at Engine Expo 2008, in Stuttgart, Germany.

    Abt reveals tuned A4 Avant

    Posted by AudiMobiles.com
Tuners - perhaps especially the German-car tuners - seem to leave no stone unturned in the search for more performance and sportier looks. Abt’s latest creative burst brings us this new take on Audi’s already excellent A4 Avant.

The Abt AS4 is an estate redesigned for daily use with a kick. Although Audi gave the A4 Avant a good bit of go from the factory, Abt has chosen to do a bit more. Depending on the state of tune desired, and which engine you’re starting with, you can go from a stock 160hp with the 1.8L TSI petrol motor to 200hp or 240hp after upgrades; with the diesel Abt cranks it up to either 282hp or 310hp from a stock 240hp. Torque for the diesel is a devilish 610Nm in top trim.

Big stoppers at all four corners and custom wheels with sticky rubber mean the car can haul down its massive straight-line speed in time for whatever you might throw at it. An all-new lower body kit - front, side and rear skirts - and a a rear roof spoiler plus Abt classic dual-dual exhaust system give the AS4 a sporty look to match its upgraded internals.

The best part is that even with all the added performance and style, the utility and comfort of the A4 Avant is still there, undisturbed, beneath it all.
