Audi is Ranked as a Leader in Race to Fully Autonomous Vehicles

2016 Audi RS7 Sportback TFSI quattro US Front AngleAudi ranks as one of the leaders in the industry movement toward autonomous driving in a new study by Navigant Research. Audi, Daimler, BMW and General Motors are leading all other automakers as they move toward the goal of producing self-driven vehicles in the next few years, the study found.

“Our approach looked at the overall strategy and execution to see who’s got the best history in this area as well as who’s got the most on the drawing board now and has made announcements about what is going to be launched in the next year or two,” David Alexander, London-based senior research analyst for the market research and consulting firm based in Boulder, Colorado. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 9.6 and 9.5 liters per 100 kilometers (24.5 and 24.8 US mpg), respectively, corresponding to 223 and 221 g CO2 per km (358.9 and 355.7 g/mi). A powerful 3.0 TDI developing 180 kW (245 hp), 20-inch wheels, dynamic design and bucket seats reveal the two-door coupé’s connections with the race version that has featured in the German Touring Car Masters (DTM).

The Audi A5 DTM selection turns heads with its special racing design. The front lid, doors and rear window are emblazoned with dynamically designed DTM, quattro and Audi Sport logos. The Misano red paint finish contrasts with high-gloss black add-on parts on the front, sills and rear, giving added emphasis to the sports appeal of this limited-edition model. Sixth podium place in succession for Fassler-Lotterer-TreluyerAudi made a step forward in terms of vehicle performance in the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Fuji. But by achieving positions three and four, the race results did not fully reflect the true progress made. In changeable weather conditions, the Audi squad was unfortunate several times in terms of tire choices and caution periods.

Following a good qualifying session, the two Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars again  proved their prowess in the 6-hour race. Marcel Fässler led the wet race and generated an advantage of more than 15 seconds before car number ‘7’ pitted for the first time. Oliver Jarvis in the number ‘8’ sister car maintained second place some of the time  but, due to poor visibility caused by windshield fogging, lost ground. Audi R8 LMS Ultra Wins Important TitleAudi customer team wins important championship title: in the Blancpain GT Series, the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT with the Dutchman Robin Frijns celebrated victory in the drivers’ classification.

Together with the Belgian Laurens Vanthoor, Frijns had clinched three victories in the 2015 season at Brands Hatch, Zolder and Portimão. As Vanthoor was forced to take a break due to an injury sustained in an accident, Frijns competed in the season finale at Zandvoort in the Netherlands together with the German Christopher Mies.
